What Wall Opening Weeps does:

  • They form the bottom edge of the scratch coat and the bottom edge of the thin-set mortar over wall openings (windows and doors).
  • They maintain vertical tunnels/channels up into the thin veneer walls.
  • They are easy to install.
  • They are 3⁄16" thick and fit easily into a thin veneer wall detail.

How to install Wall Opening Weeps*

  • Install Wall Opening Weeps™ 10” on center.
  • Install metal lath directly over Sure Cavity.
  • Apply scratch coat and thin-set veneer mortar.
  • Tool joints and lightly score legs at face of wall and crack off by pushing downward while mortar is still plastic.
  • Finish tool joint and brush.

Wall Opening Weeps Specifications

Made of Recycleable Materials0.024" (0.6 mm) thick high-impact polystyrene strip formed with 3/16" (4.8 mm) deep corrugations, bent into L-shape, 9" (229 mm) Leg - 2.5" (57 mm ) wide and 5" (127 mm) leg - 2.5" (57mm) wide. This system is installed behind thin veneer scratch coat and metal lath to create a system of tunnels and channels down behind and out of thin veneers at tops of wall openings (windows, doors, etc.), this weep system must be used in conjunction with MTI Sure Cavity.
